Thoughtful article. My comment which follows has nothing to do specifically to abortion, but to your remark about the law.

Law has nothing to do with ethical/moral standards. It is perfectly legal to allow someone to die through non-intervention, but is it moral? Circumstantial?

Unfortunately, people tend to try to impose their will upon others through force of law. They pick and choose according to their worldview. I’m in the “no victim, no crime” tribe. Regarding abortion, the dilemma there is about the status of a fetus as a victim. Opinions vary so the fight is on and the fight is in the ring called law which you address.

Retired and living my golden years in a world full of angry people.
