I’m not sure what this means — “we estimate different numbers based upon our own experience and perception.” Nearly all the statistics I quoted you were of concrete things not open to subjectivity, such as what percentage of the black population is in prison.

The difference in how much of that we attribute to racism vs. other factors. You’ve already told me that your default belief that strife between the races is higher than mine.

where is your proof of this? “That data is generally obscure or misleading in the statistics.”

I’ve tried to find statistics relating to race based crime. They don’t do a very good job of tracking that. Probably because it gets subjective assumptions. The bias then comes in how it gets presented.

You conceded that most people are at least a little bit racist, and yet we aren’t supposed to talk about that?

Of course we are supposed to talk about it. We are talking about it. It needs to all be talked about. You told me that you couldn’t finish Pilgrim’s book because you disagreed with his conclusions. I wrote an article about the racism of low expectations that got no love. Probably because I asked why people have those low expectations. If we want to combat racism through a more egalitarian society we must give people reason to believe in it. If we have low expectations of each other we don’t consider each other equal. If black people get fewer call backs couldn’t it be that the hiring entity has low expectations of black people. Why does she? Racism you might say, but why? We’ll never work on that if we don’t talk about it.

To talk about the fact that racism exists and is a problem is not spitting in someone’s eye unless you are justifying the fact that the racist status quo is really OK. To call out injustice should be the most American thing in the world to do. Why isn’t it?

It’s not what you say, it’s how you say it. Have you decided on a word to promote?

If you don’t yet understand that after every story of mine you have read, I don’t know what else to do to make it clear.

I understand it, thanks in part to you. If you don’t understand that I’m about finding something that works I don’t know what else to do to make it clear.

Retired and living my golden years in a world full of angry people.
