Teaching children that homosexuality is a thing (it is) and they shouldn’t harass them, etc. is just fine and civilized.
Gender dysphoria also exists. Here there are other issues. The most glaring from an educational standpoint is forcing children to pretend that absurdities are truth.
Biological men competing in women’s sports is extremely unfair to women. It is also not a phobia for a man to prefer that the woman he is dating doesn’t have a penis and vice versa. Where will teaching and demanding acceptance of that lead? The end of women’s sports and tragic cases of transvestites being beaten of killed when the reveal their surprise. This is supposed to be a good thing?
Thirty years ago I knew a flaming gay man who wished to be treated like he was “one of the girls.” I and the other members of my family treated him as he wished, but I certainly didn’t try to teach my children that he was actually a woman because he identified as one.
That a parent would think that schools shouldn’t either should not come as a shock. There is a difference between education and indoctrination.
