There are many stories on Medium calling out the [ ] behavior of group [ ]. Frequently somewhere in the condemnation there will be a meaningless “Of course not all []. I shouldn’t have to say it.” It is meant to be a shield from someone complaining that you are painting with a brush that is too broad.

But what does it mean? There might be one [ ] out there who isn’t a [ ]. Perhaps 1E-6% of [ ] is not [ ]. 1%, 50%. If your words cause people to challenge them, before dismissing someone as fragile you might ask yourself if it is your writting. Readers cannot read minds and neither can you.

[ ]s are [ ]. Of course not all, but 99.99% of them are would be an honest opinion, even if it has nothing to do with reality. So what does “not all” mean?
