No need to apologize Fatima, I understand what you are writing about. As you wrote, race is a factor in privilege, like physical beauty, intelligence, wealth, strength, physical stature, etc. Depending upon circumstance there are things that give someone “privilege”, or as I call it, advantage. My disagreement was with the assumption that someone trying to treat people with the same respect and expectation without (or with as little of as possible) regard to race, which some think of as colorblindness, as being racist. They may be trying their best to shed racism.
It’s not a matter of me being fragile that I find the sea of, “dear white people” anti-whiteness opinion that I see on Medium as unhelpful, but rather a matter of trading (“I’m not trying to be insulting”) insults. Tip-toeing around trying to avoid everything that might be perceived as racist by people looking for racism or offence has reached a level of absurdity that is shutting down honest thought and discussion.
I understand your objection to people pretending that race doesn’t matter or have negative impact on people. I’m just old enough to remember the bad old days when racism was much worse than now and I find it a little disturbing that so many people don’t acknowledge the change for the better that has taken place and continues to take place.
