Depending upon the issue conservatives think I’m liberal and liberals think I’m conservative. I never get accused of being a leftist progressive which is an entirely different thing from a liberal. In some ways I come close to being a classical liberal, a political ideology that favors the protection of individual liberty and economic freedom by limiting government power. Modern progressives and conservatives both want power for themselves and are horrified when the other side gains power. I’m in favor of government power being so limited that nobody needs to give a damn who is POTUS, etc.
If you think about it, the two sides don’t actually act in opposition. The left takes a step toward bigger government for what it wants, the right takes a step toward bigger government for what it wants. See the common element? Both give us bigger government. Not exactly what the founders wanted. If you read The Federalist Papers and more importantly The Anti-Federalist papers (it was debate) and the record of the Constitutional debates it is plainly clear that we don’t have the government they envisioned. People don’t give that much thought any more. Now it’s the child’s argument that life isn’t fair. No shit.
